Newell sheep sales report
St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 2,287 head Dec. 6, compared to 3,095 head last week and 2,390 head last year, according to the USDA to South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter ewes sold mostly steady, except Utility ewes sold $2 to $3 higher. Feeder lambs sold mostly steady. Receipts were comprised of about 84% feeder lambs, 16% slaughter ewes with the balance miscellaneous sheep and goats. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 33 head, 162 lbs., 25.50. Good 3 to 4, 6 head, 218 lbs., 19.25. Utility 1 to 2, 95 head, 146 lbs., 26.75 to 29.00 (28.17). Cull 1, 113 to 130 lbs., 15.00 to 18.25 (15.53). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 52 to 57 lbs., 120.00 to 123.00 (122.22); 60 to 64 lbs., 118.00 to 125.50 (121.97); 76 to 77 lbs., 114.25 to 114.50 (114.38); 80 to 86 lbs., 104.25 to 108.50 (106.31); 327 head, 81 lbs., 112.25 ewe lambs; 22 head, 89 lbs., 102.50 fleshy; 87 head, 98 lbs., 98.50 to 100.00 (99.48); 245 head, 102 lbs., 100.25; 25 head, 109 lbs., 93.75 fleshy. Medium frame 1 to 2, 13 head, 49 lbs., 114.00; 26 head, 58 lbs., 117.00; 44 head, 73 lbs., 108.50. Slaughter bucks: 11 head, 240 lbs., 23.25 fleshy; 7 head, 209 lbs., 10.00 medium to thin. Replacement ewes: Large frame 1 to 2, black face, lamb 3 to 20, price per head, 58 head, 171 lbs., solid to broken 81.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, white face open, price per head, 47 head, 158 lbs., 3 years to solid 85.00; 46 head, 155 lbs., solid to broken 60.00; 108 head, 147 lbs., broken 36.50 to 41.00.
