Ice closes markets

Due to ice conditions that blanketed the High Plains the week of Dec. 10, several livestock auctions canceled their sales.

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., canceled its Dec. 10 auction due to the ice storm and very light receipts. The next sale will be Dec. 17.

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., canceled its Dec. 10 auction as well. Ice storms in the area had both buyers and sellers staying home. The next regularly scheduled sale will be Dec. 17.

McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., canceled its Dec. 11 auction due to the ice storm and light receipts. The next regularly scheduled auction should be Dec. 18.

At the Oklahoma National Stockyards, Oklahoma City, Okla., the Dec. 11 auction was canceled because of limited cow and bull offerings and the ice storm. The storm restricted the movement of livestock and made it difficult for buyers to attend.

The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Mo., canceled its Dec. 11 auction due to weather. Its next regular auction will be Dec. 18.
