Faith livestock sales report

The Faith Livestock Commission Co., Faith, S.D., reported receipts of 1,885 head Dec. 10, compared to 1,166 head last week and 1,400 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, calf trends were not applicable due to light receipts last week. Feeder cows sold mostly steady to $1 higher. Slaughter cows sold steady to $1 higher in a light test. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. Demand was moderate to good. Receipts were comprised of 80% steers and 20% heifers with 64% weighing over 600 pounds. The total receipts were comprised of about 85% feeder cattle, 12% feeder cows, 2% slaughter cows and bulls with the balance miscellaneous cattle. This will be the last sale for 2007.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 458 to 477 lbs., 131.00 to 134.00 (131.60); 22 head, 541 lbs., 115.00 to 117.50 (116.59); 105 head, 530 lbs., 127.25 value added; 568 to 593 lbs., 108.50 to 112.00 (111.43); 602 to 636 lbs., 110.25 to 119.00 (113.24) calves; 655 to 697 lbs., 110.75 to 119.25 (115.12) calves; 709 to 720 lbs., 110.50 calves. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 82 head, 620 lbs., 108.75 calves; 654 to 690 lbs., 104.75 to 107.75 (106.85) calves; 12 head, 785 lbs., 102.25 calves. Medium frame 1 to 2, 18 head, 476 lbs., 116.25; 46 head, 545 lbs., 112.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 22 head, 452 lbs., 120.00; 512 to 538 lbs., 115.00 to 119.50 (117.69); 557 to 572 lbs., 105.00 to 109.50 (108.53); 609 to 632 lbs., 100.25 to 105.50 (104.86) calves; 12 head, 657 lbs., 99.25 calves; 13 head, 835 to 848 (840 (95.25 to 95.50 (95.35). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 605 to 620 lbs., 98.00 calves. Medium frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 431 lbs., 103.50; 16 head, 504 lbs., 101.75.

Feeder cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heiferettes 940 to 950 lbs., 76.00 to 86.50; 3 to 4 years old, 1000 to 1100 lbs., 65.50 to 68.00; young, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 54.00 to 62.00; middle aged, 1250 to 1350 lbs., 47.25 to 49.00; aged, 1000 to 1275 lbs., 42.75 to 46.50. Large frame 1 to 2, 1400 to 1650 lbs., 44.00 to 48.75.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1790 lbs., 40.50 to 42.50; high dressing, 46.50 to 48.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1050 to 1400 lbs., 36.00 to 38.00; low dressing, 33.50 to 35.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1800 to 2160 lbs., 49.50 to 52.50; high dressing, 60.00.
