Ericson cattle sales report

The Ericson Spalding Livestock Auction, Ericson, Neb., reported receipts of 3,000 head Dec. 8, compared to 1,600 head last week and 5,000 head last year, according to the USDA-Nebraska Department of Agriculture market News, Kearney, Neb.

There were not enough comparable receipts from the previous sale to establish a trend, however, a substantially higher undertone was noted. Buyer demand and overall turnout were good, despite heavy snow that fell throughout the sale. Receipts consisted of 70% steers and 30% heifers, 35% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 348 lbs., 156.00; 365 to 370 lbs., 148.50 to 150.00 (149.08); 27 head, 443 lbs., 144.50; 462 to 499 lbs., 127.25 to 141.00 (133.67); 500 to 544 lbs., 120.00 to 136.00 (127.50); 553 to 582 lbs., 112.50 to 127.75 (123.66); 36 head, 629 lbs., 108.25; 600 to 649 lbs., 107.00 to 118.75 (113.76) calves; 653 to 697 lbs., 105.00 to 115.50 (112.04) calves; 8 head, 700 lbs., 105.00 calves; 761 to 767 lbs., 104.50 to 106.25 (105.84) calves;. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 17 head, 363 to 365 lbs., 122.00 to 124.00 (123.06).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 403 to 434 lbs., 123.00 to 132.50 (130.20); 453 to 496 lbs., 109.50 to 120.00 (114.22); 10 head, 461 lbs., 124.50 fancy; 508 to 544 lbs., 107.00 to 115.50 (112.96); 560 to 597 lbs., 98.00 to 110.50 (105.53); 601 to 648 lbs., 97.50 to 106.00 (102.86) calves; 653 to 668 lbs., 97.75 to 102.00 ( 99.43) calves. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 13 head, 406 lbs., 115.00; 20 head, 493 to 495 lbs., 105.50 to 107.50 (106.70).
