Denison feeder cattle report
The Denison Feeder Cattle Auction, Denison, Iowa, reported receipts of 2,484 head Dec. 6, compared to 2,516 head last week and 2,210 head last year, according to the Iowa Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Des Moines, Iowa. This was a special preconditioned cattle sale. Demand was good. The sale was made up of all calves. The winter snow storm didn't stop the farmer feeders from being on the seats procuring their replacement stock. The quality was good, flesh score was medium to fleshy and the cattle were carrying some fill due to the storm. Compared to last week the market was steady with a weaker undertone noted on the heavier weights. Receipts included 59% feeder cattle over 600 pounds, 46% heifers and 54% steers. Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 19 head, 411 to 445 lbs., 134.00 to 138.00 (135.63); 450 to 497 lbs., 119.00 to 134.50 (127.16); 505 to 549 lbs., 119.50 to 125.00 (121.89); 550 to 595 lbs., 113.50 to 120.00 (116.61); 555 to 589 lbs., 108.50 to 112.25 (111.28) fleshy; 607 to 649 lbs., 113.00 to 117.50 (115.19) calves; 603 to 638 lbs., 110.00 to 113.50 (111.92) fleshy; 654 to 690 lbs., 110.50 to 115.25 (112.29) calves; 676 to 687 lbs., 106.75 to 109.50 (108.15) fleshy; 703 to 748 lbs., 107.50 to 113.00 (109.69) calves; 11 head, 710 to 722 lbs., 104.00 to 106.00 (105.10) fleshy; 751 to 767 lbs., 106.50 to 108.50 (107.92) calves; 818 to 836 lbs., 106.25 to 111.75 (108.03) calves.
