Amarillo cattle sales report

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 428 head Dec. 11, compared to 957 head last week and 932 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, no adequate price trend comparison was available. There were not enough steers and heifers on offer due to icy roads and wet conditions hampering livestock movement. Slaughter cows and bulls were not enough to test. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 750-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade and demand were moderate.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 236 lbs., 137.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 123.00 to 126.00; 490 to 500 lbs., 102.00 to 103.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, package 500 lbs., 95.00; package 635 lbs., 87.00. Large frame 1, lot 671 lbs., 95.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 648 lbs., 99.00; package 827 lbs., 86.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, package 575 lbs., 88.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, package 338 lbs., 116.00; 400 to 440 lbs., 104.50 to 105.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 93.00 to 97.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 230 lbs., 119.00; package 323 lbs., 113.00; 400 to 410 lbs., 96.00 to 99.00; 500 to 530 lbs., 90.00 to 92.00; 625 to 650 lbs., 91.00 to 92.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 91.00 to 98.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 300 to 350 lbs., 91.00 to 99.00; package 417 lbs., 89.00; package 532 lbs., 84.50; lot 620 lbs., 87.00.

Slaughter cows: Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 46.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 39.00 to 41.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1400 to 1700 lbs., 56.00 to 60.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 800 to 900 lbs., 5 to 6 months bred, 650.00 to 665.00 per head; young to middle-aged, 1250 to 1300 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 900.00 to 950.00 per head, middle-aged, 850 to 1200 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 575.00 to 750.00 per head; aged, 850 to 1300 lbs., 2 to 6 months bred, 600.00 to 700.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle aged, 1000 to 1100 lbs., with 250- to 350-pound calves, 735.00 to 770.00 per pair.
