52nd annual MGGA Convention & Trade Show kicks off Dec. 4

Montana

Over 500 wheat and barley producers from around the state are expected to convene at the Best Western Heritage Inn in Great Falls, Dec. 4 to 7, for the 52nd Annual Montana Grain Growers Association Convention and Trade Show.

Will Roehm, 2007 Convention Chairman and MGGA Vice-president said, "For 52 years, MGGA has been bringing producers, exhibitors and top-notch speakers together to focus on the future of Montana's grain industry. This year will be no different. We've got a sold out trade show, a jam-packed agenda and lots of opportunities for producers to network with each other, hear from agricultural professionals and provide input on the direction of MGGA policy for the coming year."

Dick Wittman, farm business and financial management consultant, presents a two-part business management seminar Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The morning seminar, "Managing Business Relationships & Transitions in Multi-Family Farm Operations," will be followed by a hands-on case study workshop in the afternoon titled "Building Effective Farm Business Management Systems--Are You Getting a Passing Grade in Farm Management?"

The convention continues on Wednesday and Thursday with a solid program of speakers and educational programs tailored especially for grain producers.

--Dr. Barry Flinchbaugh, farm policy expert--"Economics & Politics of the New Farm Bill"

--Mike Wong, Senior VP, Columbia Grain--"Worldwide Markets & Logistics"

--Dr. Neal Christensen, Agriliance Regional Agronomist,--"Fertilizer Economics"

--Marsha Goetting, MSU--"Beneficiary Deeds & Dying Without a Will"

You'll also hear from our invited congressional delegation; Montana Department of Ag Director Ron de Yong; MSU President Geoff Gamble and MSU research scientists Perry Miller, David Weaver, Tom Blake and Peggy Lamb.

Roehm added, "A key part of our convention is the resolutions process. This sets the organization's policy direction for the next year and we need as much member input as possible." Committee meetings are scheduled for Wednesday morning and the resolutions process will be completed on Thursday afternoon.
