West Plains livestock sales
The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 5,000 head Dec. 4, compared to 3,548 head last week and 4,019 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers 450 to 800 pounds were $2 to $4 lower, over 800 pounds limited test were $1 to $2 lower. Heifers at 450 to 700 pounds sold $3 to $5 lower, and over 700 pounds a limited supply were $1 to $3 lower. The better quality of mostly weaned 300- to 450-pound calves were mostly steady with several steer calves gaining momentum midway through the sale and sold steady to $3 higher. The supply was moderate to heavy. Demand was moderate to good, even though buyers had several orders this week, they intended to buy them at a lower figure than last, in fact some buyers were instructed to buy cheaper or leave them alone. The supply consisted of 57% steers and 43% heifers, with nearly 37% weighed over 600 pounds.
