Sioux Falls sheep sales reportThe Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 868 head Dec. 3, compared to 850 head last week and 1,067 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to $1 higher. Slaughter ewes were not enough for an accurate market trend, however a lower undertone was noted. Feeder lambs were too few to test. Buyer attendance was moderate with good demand. Much of South Dakota and surrounding areas receiving first bit of snow for the winter season with Sioux Falls accumulating four to five inches, making overnight consignments more appealing to buyers. Receipts were about 79% slaughter lambs, 18% slaughter ewes, 3% feeder lambs. Slaughter lambs: Shorn, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 126 to 127 lbs., 93.75 to 94.25 (93.91); 14 head, 145 lbs., 94.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 66 head, 124 lbs., 93.00; 130 to 146 lbs., 90.00 to 94.50 (91.76). Wooled Choice and Prime 3 to 4, 132 to 146 lbs., 88.75 to 89.50 (89.29); 25 head, 172 lbs., 87.00. Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 117 to 120 lbs., 90.00 to 91.75 (90.66). Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 15 head, 153 lbs., 28.50; 161 to 192 lbs., 25.50 to 29.50 (27.90). Utility 1 to 2, 133 to 145 lbs., 18.50 to 22.00 (19.71). Cull 1, 6 head, 118 lbs., 15.00. Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1, 13 head, 60 lbs., 94.00; 12 head, 106 lbs., 91.00 to 93.50 (92.04). Medium and large frame 2, 10 head, 67 lbs., 76.00. Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 27 head, 62 lbs., 105.50. Selection 2, 7 head, 54 lbs., 81.00.
