Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 3,095 head Nov. 29, compared to 3,603 head two weeks ago and 1,003 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to two weeks ago, slaughter ewes sold steady to $1 higher. Feeder lambs under 80 pounds sold $1 to $3 higher, lambs over 80 pounds sold $6 to $8 higher. Receipts were comprised of about 75% feeder lambs, 22% slaughter ewes with the balance miscellaneous sheep and goats. There will be a special feeder lamb sale next week, estimating around 1,500 feeders with 300 to 500 replacement ewes, plus a regular sheep sale. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 127 head, 169 lbs., 26.00. Good 3 to 4, 32 head, 224 lbs., 20.00. Utility 1 to 2, 200 head, 149 lbs., 23.50. Cull 1, 136 to 139 lbs., 14.50 to 16.25 (16.03). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 187 head, 58 lbs., 132.00; 65 to 67 lbs., 126.00 to 129.00 (127.58); 73 to 76 lbs., 112.00 to 116.00 (113.82); 81 to 87 lbs., 104.00 to 108.00 (106.43); 94 to 99 lbs., 97.75 to 104.50 (101.67); 102 to 109 lbs., 93.75 to 97.25 (94.39); 64 head, 113 lbs., 96.00. Medium 1 to 2, 61 head, 47 lbs., 109.50; 50 to 57 lbs., 111.25 to 112.75 (111.99); 104 head, 68 lbs., 116.00 to 116.75 (116.55). Slaughter bucks: 28 head, 242 lbs., 22.00 fleshy.
