New Mexico Ag Expo celebrating its 16th year

New Mexico

The 16th Annual New Mexico Agricultural Expo, slated for Feb. 26 to 27, 2008, is expected to draw more exhibitors and spectators into Portales this year than ever before. This year's event will be dedicated to Chester Harth. Harth, who passed away last July, was active in planning the Ag Expo for 14 years and served as the chair on two separate occasions. Last year, Harth worked diligently with other committee members to initiate dairy seminars and lectures. According to this year's chair, Terry Ervin, the event will highlight New Mexico's agricultural industry with a continued emphasis on the dairy industry.

Planning for the state's premier agricultural trade show is already underway as vendor registrations begin rolling in. The Roosevelt County Cooperative Extension Office will be organizing this year's educational seminars and demonstrations again and offering a variety of opportunities for attendees. Dr. Robert Hagevoort, dairy specialist, has organized several seminars for dairy employees, as well as owners.

More than 170 booths with 400 exhibitors are expected to attend this year's show. Displays of products and services providing the latest in technology to the agriculture industry will highlight the show. Attendance at the 2007 Ag Expo exceeded 4,000 people.

Patrick Kircher, Roosevelt County Extension agent, is "looking forward to the opportunity to provide another outstanding Expo for residents of Eastern New Mexico and West Texas."

Activities at the Expo will include an antique tractor parade with games, educational dairy seminars and demonstrations and chuck wagon lunches on both days.

For booth information, call the Portales/Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce by calling 575-356-8541 or 800-635-8036, e-mail the Expo at chamber@portales.com or check out the Ag Expo website at www.nmagexpo.com. All application forms can be found on the website.
