Kilgore honored by KFBKansas Veteran southeast Kansas Extension Specialist Gary Kilgore, Neosho County, was honored with the 2007 Kansas Farm Bureau Distinguished Service to Agriculture award Nov. 9, at Kansas Farm Bureau's 89th annual meeting, Manhattan. The KFB Distinguished Service to Agriculture award is presented to individuals who exemplify leadership in agriculture, service to Farm Bureau families and community involvement. "It's hard to measure the impact that Gary Kilgore has had on the lives of Kansas farmers and ranchers, but it's significant," said Steve Baccus, an Ottawa County grain producer who serves as president of Kansas Farm Bureau. "We are honored to be able to recognize the lifelong accomplishments and professional contributions of this outstanding Kansas agriculture advocate." Kilgore was nominated for the award by the Neosho and Osage County Farm Bureaus. After 40 years as a Kansas State University Extension Crops and Soils Specialist for southeast Kansas, Gary retired May 30. He was born and raised on a farm north of Mullinville in Kiowa County. He received his B.S. degree in agronomy in 1964. Gary and his wife, Lorraine, live in Chanute and own and manage farmland in Neosho and Kiowa counties. He has been active in his county 4-H, served on boards for the Kansas Soybean Association and Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission. Kansas Farm Bureau represents grassroots agriculture. Established in 1919, this non-profit advocacy organization supports farm families who earn their living in a changing industry. ------CUTLINE------ The farmers and ranchers of Kansas Farm Bureau honored Gary Kilgore, Neosho County, with the 2007 Kansas Farm Bureau Distinguished Service to Agriculture award during the KFB annual meeting, Nov. 9, in Manhattan.
