Faith livestock sales report

The Faith Livestock Commission Co., Faith, S.D., reported receipts of 1,166 head Dec. 3, compared to 695 head last week and 645 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder cattle and calves were not well tested. Feeder cows sold mostly steady to $1 lower. Slaughter cows sold $1 to $3 lower in a limited test. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. Demand was moderate to good. Receipts were comprised of 0% steers and 100% heifers with 0% weighing over 600 pounds. The total receipts were comprised of about 3% feeders and calves, 20% feeder cows, 71% bred females, 3% slaughter cows and bulls with the balance miscellaneous cattle.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 16 head, 432 lbs., 117.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 9 head, 298 lbs., 130.00.

Feeder cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, heiferettes 1070 lbs., 81.50 to 88.50; young, 1180 lbs., 62.00; middle aged, 1200 to 1375 lbs., 46.50 to 49.75; aged, 1050 to 1350 lbs., 42.00 to 45.50. Large frame 1 to 2, 1385 to 1600 lbs., 44.00 to 47.75.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1200 to 1450 lbs., 39.00 to 42.00; high dressing, 46.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1275 lbs., 35.75 to 37.00; low dressing, 33.00 to 34.75.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1650 to 2340 lbs., 54.00; low dressing, 50.25 to 51.50.

Bred heifers: Medium and large frame 1, price per head, bred black, calve March to April, 975 to 1130 lbs., black-black whiteface 1135.00 to 1485.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, price per head, bred Angus, calve January to April, 1170 to 1240 lbs., 3 to 4 years old, black-black whiteface 1220.00 to 1435.00; 1225 to 1340 lbs., 5 to 6 years old, black-black whiteface 1160.00 to 1375.00; 1245 to 1400 lbs., 6 to 9 years old, red whiteface black-black whiteface 960.00 to 1080.00; 1180 to 1385 lbs., broken, black-black whiteface 545.00 to 720.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, bred Hereford, calve March to April, 20 lbs., 1340 lbs., 6 to 9 years old, black-black whiteface 1050.00; 1340 lbs., broken, black-black whiteface 630.00 to 660.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, bred Charolais, calve March to April, 11 head, 1250 lbs., 4 to 6 years old, red-red whiteface 1150.00; 13 head, 1330 lbs., 7 to 9 years old, red-black 825.00; 15 head, 1405 lbs., broken years old, red-black 680.00.
