West Plains regional salesThe Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 4,600 head July 31, compared to 3,218 head last week and 3,019 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo. Compared to last week, steers under 450 pounds and heifers under 500 pounds were $2 to $5 higher. Heavier weights were steady to $2 higher, advance mainly on weights over 600 pounds, with steers over 800 pounds and heifers over 700 pounds were $2 to $3 higher. The supply was moderate to heavy. Demand good. Some producers selling calves somewhat lighter than usual as some of these folks haven't been able to catch any recent rainfall, plus the current market level is appealing enough to cause others to call the trucks. The feeder supply consisted of 54% steers and 46% heifers, with nearly 48% over 600 pounds.
