OKC West livestock sales report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 3,945 head July 25, compared to 4,024 head last week and 5,646 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $2 to $3 higher. Feeder heifers were $2 higher. Steer and heifer calves were $2 to $4 higher on a light test. Demand very good for all classes. The abundance of rain this spring and summer has prolonged the grass season and increased the outlets for thin fleshed cattle. Feeder cattle were in thin to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups were mostly average. The supply consisted of 83% over 600 pounds, 14% under 600 pounds, 3% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 36% of the total supply. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 higher. Packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 134 cows and bulls sold with 67% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, 2 loads, 495 lbs., 142.50 to 145.25; few 545 to 600 lbs., 121.50 to 128.00; few 645 to 700 lbs., 107.50 to 118.50. Yearlings, 675 to 700 lbs., 119.00 to 123.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 115.00 to 118.00, 700 to 750 lbs., thin 118.00 to 122.50; few 800 to 835 lbs., 114.25 to 117.00; 875 to 900 lbs., 110.25 to 111.50; 900 to 1000 lbs., 103.00 to 110.50; 1000 to 1010 lbs., 102.75 to 104.25. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 495 lbs., 129.00; package 595 lbs., 121.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 119.50 to 125.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 112.50 to 116.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 109.50 to 114.50. Medium and large frame 2, 615 lbs., thin 121.00; 675 to 700 lbs., 116.00 to 117.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 109.00 to 114.50, thin 115.25 to 117.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 108.75 to 114.00; 900 to 925 lbs., 108.25 to 108.50.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, calves, few 300 to 400 lbs., 135.00 to 139.00; few 400 to 450 lbs., 122.00 to 130.50; 500 to 600 lbs., 116.00 to 118.00, fleshy 575 lbs., 110.00; 600 to 675 lbs., 103.00 to 109.00. Yearlings, 600 to 700 lbs., 111.00 to 115.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 108.25 to 112.50; package 835 lbs., 105.50; package 900 lbs., 104.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600 to 675 lbs., 110.00 to 113.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 106.00 to 109.50; 800 to 875 lbs., 100.00 to 106.25. Medium and large frame 2, 400 to 500 lbs., thin 123.50 to 135.00; 540 to 550 lbs., thin 116.50 to 119.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 109.00 to 113.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 106.00 to 109.50; lot 885 lbs., 100.00.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 17 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1850 lbs., 51.50 to 54.50; high dressing, 56.00 to 60.00. Boners, 34 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1250 lbs., 53.00 to 55.50; high dressing, 55.00 to 61.00; low dressing, 47.00 to 49.00. Lean, 16 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1250 lbs., 49.50 to 53.00; high dressing, 53.50 to 55.50; low dressing, 43.00 to 48.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 15 head, 1200 to 2100 lbs., 64.50 to 68.50; high dressing, 69.00 to 74.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 63.50; very high 77.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 7 to 8 years old, 1200 to 1425 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average quality, 800.00 to 830.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 1050 to 1100 lbs., with 150- to 200-lb. calves, average blacks, 1325.00.
