OKC West livestock sales reportThe OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 3,945 head July 25, compared to 4,024 head last week and 5,646 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla. Compared to last week, feeder steers were $2 to $3 higher. Feeder heifers were $2 higher. Steer and heifer calves were $2 to $4 higher on a light test. Demand very good for all classes. The abundance of rain this spring and summer has prolonged the grass season and increased the outlets for thin fleshed cattle. Feeder cattle were in thin to fleshy conditions. Weigh-ups were mostly average. The supply consisted of 83% over 600 pounds, 14% under 600 pounds, 3% cows and bulls. Heifers comprised 36% of the total supply. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were $3 higher. Packer demand was moderate to good. A total of 134 cows and bulls sold with 67% going to packers.
