Amarillo cattle sales reportThe Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas reported receipts of 1,738 head July 24, compared to 859 head last week and 1,306 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were $3 to $5 higher, under 700 pounds were not enough for an adequate market test but a higher undertone was noted. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 700- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Trade was active and demand good. Feeder cattle accounted for approximately 92% of the run with cows and bulls accounting for 8% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 47%, heifers 53%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds 73%.
