Wheat tour for Congresswoman Musgrave scheduled for Aug. 27Colorado The fourth annual wheat tour for U.S. Representative Marilyn Musgrave Aug. 27 will include special events in Yuma and Phillips Counties. The wheat tour is a series of wheat related events hosted by the Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee and the Colorado Association of Wheat Growers. Musgrave's large Fourth Congressional District includes 17 major winter wheat producing counties on the Eastern Plains. During 2006, the district accounted for 84 percent of Colorado's total wheat production, valued at an estimated $160,418,000 (of state total of $190,969,000). In 2006, Yuma was the state's third largest wheat producing county with production of 3,648,000 bushels valued at $16,780,000 and Phillips was the state's thirteenth largest wheat producing county with production of 1,748,000 bushels valued at $8,040,800. The third term congresswoman serves on the powerful House Agriculture Committee, which is responsible for federal farm programs, disaster assistance, federal crop insurance and other legislation affecting wheat production and exports. Colorado wheat producers are invited to attend and participate in the following wheat-related events scheduled Aug. 27: --Lunch program with Yuma and Washington County area wheat producers beginning at 11:30 a.m., at the Trent Bushner farm located 9 miles north of Yuma on Highway 59 and 1/2 mile east on County Road 48. Wheat producers are invited to attend this complimentary lunch and no RSVP is required. --Dinner program with Phillips and Logan County area wheat producers beginning at 6 p.m., at Starkebaum Farms located 4 miles east of Haxtun on Highway 6; 2 miles south on Road 13; and 1/2 mile east on Road 24.
