Wayne County becomes sixth livestock-friendly county
WAYNE, Neb. (AP)--Wayne County has joined Dawes, Morrill, Hitchcock, Webster and Keith as Nebraska's livestock-friendly counties under a program coordinated by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. The governor, Dave Heineman, says that in seeking the designation, Wayne County officials are showing their strong commitment to rural economic development and agriculture. He says the livestock-friendly designation is a sign that counties are ready to pursue new opportunities in agribusiness. To earn a livestock-friendly designation, a county must hold a public hearing and adopt a declaration acknowledging the importance of livestock to the well-being of the county and provide the state copies of its livestock zoning requirements, among other things.
