Sioux Falls sheep sales
The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 929 head Aug. 20, compared to 982 head last week and 1,513 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter lambs sold steady to firm. A large number of show lambs were in the offering. Slaughter ewes were too few to test, however a steady undertone was noted. Feeder lambs sold $2 to $4 higher on a light test. Receipts included about 47% slaughter lambs, 34% feeder lambs, 11% slaughter ewes and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Slaughter lambs: Shorn, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 37 head, 127 lbs., 105.00; 65 head, 134 lbs., 106.00. Shorn, Choice 2 to 3, 17 head, 126 lbs., 102.00. Wooled, Choice and Prime 2 to 4, 137 head, 127 lbs., 103.50 to 104.00 (103.79); 135 to 137 lbs., 104.25 to 105.00 (104.75). Wooled, Choice 2 to 3, 114 to 128 lbs., 100.00 to 103.00 (101.33). Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 6 head, 177 to 198 lbs., 30.00 to 37.00 (33.70). Utility and Good 1 to 3, 5 head, 147 lbs., 26.00; 167 to 185 lbs., 25.00 to 26.50 (26.23). Cull 1, 122 to 140 lbs., 12.00 to 15.00 (12.91). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 15 head, 39 lbs., 134.00; 45 head, 58 lbs., 118.00; 63 head, 83 lbs., 106.00; 99 head, 100 lbs., 100.50 to 101.00 (100.62). Medium and large frame 2, 21 head, 58 lbs., 105.00; 26 head, 87 lbs., 82.50. Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 16 head, 34 to 38 lbs., 90.00 to 94.00 (91.09); 4 head, 48 lbs., 93.00; 11 head, 53 to 55 lbs., 93.00 to 94.00 (93.28); 61 to 62 lbs., 94.00 to 95.00 (94.81); 11 head, 70 to 74 lbs., 92.00 to 92.50 (92.27).
