SD counties to get drought aid

WASHINGTON (AP)--Eight counties in western South Dakota have been approved for more than $1 million in emergency funds to help drought-stricken ranchers get water for their livestock.

The federal relief is being offered in Custer, Fall River, Haakon (HAH'-kuhn), Harding, Meade, Pennington, Perkins and Ziebach counties.

Margaret Nachtigall of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association says the aid is desperately needed and may be the difference between "making and breaking" some ranchers.

Brown and Spink counties in eastern South Dakota will get $215,000 in federal funds to repair flood damage from last spring.
