Newell sheep sales report
St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 3,078 head Aug. 16, compared to 2,232 head two weeks ago and 3,823 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to two weeks ago, slaughter ewes sold mostly steady. Feeder lambs sold $5 to $7 lower. Offerings included a few large strings and many part loads of quality feeder lambs. Receipts included about 88% feeder lambs, 11% slaughter ewes with the balance miscellaneous sheep and goats. Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice 2 to 3, 23 head, 122 lbs., 86.25. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 7 head, 157 lbs., 28.50; 103 head, 167 lbs., 28.25. Good 3 to 4, 11 head, 214 lbs., 18.75. Utility and Good 1 to 3, 13 head, 18 lbs., 25.25. Utility 1 to 2, 121 head, 135 to 153 lbs., 26.25 to 27.00 (26.66). Cull 1, 127 to 140 lbs., 10.25 to 11.25 (10.99). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 15 head, 46 lbs., 104.75 thin; 12 head, 53 lbs., 106.50 thin; 15 head, 65 lbs., 107.00 poor fleeces; 70 to 79 lbs., 106.00 to 108.50 (107.37); 26 head, 78 lbs., 104.50 fleshy; 81 to 89 lbs., 105.25 to 109.75 (108.92); 90 to 99 lbs., 99.25 to 103.25 (102.21); 100 to 107 lbs., 95.50 to 97.50 (96.81); 106 to 109 lbs., 94.00 to 96.00 (95.64) black face; 110 to 117 lbs., 93.50 to 95.75 (94.94); 54 head, 127 lbs., 97.00 fleshy.
