Limi Boosters name scholars
Emily Griffiths, Kendallville, Ind., and Katie Hefner, Seminole, Okla., received $500 scholarships from the Limi Boosters at the National Junior Limousin Show and Congress awards banquet July 27 in West Monroe, La. Katie Crow, Leslie, Ark., and Ashley Doyle, Eddyville, Iowa, received the organization's educational grants. Griffiths, 18, joined both the Indiana Junior Limousin Association and National Junior Limousin Association in 1996. This fall, she will attend BlackHawk East Community College in Kewanee, Ill. She plans to transfer to Kansas State University to obtain her bachelor's degree in animal science then pursue a graduate degree in meat science at South Dakota State University or Texas A&M University. Her goal is to work for a branded beef program. Hefner, 18, has been a NALJA member and a member of the Oklahoma Junior Limousin Association for nine years. She will begin studies in business management and agricultural finance at Oklahoma State University this fall. She hopes to return to her family's ranch and other companies after graduation. Crow, 18, is a 12-year member of NALJA and the Arkansas Junior Limousin Organization. Currently an agribusiness student at North Arkansas College, she plans to obtain her bachelor's degree in agribusiness at Arkansas Tech University. Her goal is to become an agricultural education instructor. Doyle, 18, joined both the Iowa Junior Limousin Association and NALJA in 1997. She plans to attend Indian Hills Community College in Iowa then transfer to William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to study accounting. After graduation, she hopes to work for an agricultural business and continue raising Limousin cattle. The Limi Boosters is the auxiliary organization to the North American Limousin Foundation. It supports and promotes NALJA and helps promote the Limousin breed. In addition to educational scholarships and grants, the group awards funds to state junior Limousin associations for their field days. The North American Limousin Foundation (www.nalf.org), headquartered in Centennial, Colo., provides programs and services--including genetic evaluation of 5,000 active sires--to more than 4,000 members and their commercial customers. The Limousin breed and its Lim Flex hybrid lead the beef industry in muscle-growth efficiency and ideally complement British breeds. Date: 8/17/07
