Joplin regional cattle sales

The Joplin Regional Stockyards, Joplin, Mo., reported receipts of 3,650 head Aug. 20, compared to 2,700 head last week and 6,683 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers under 600 pounds were steady. Steers over 600 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, and heifers over 600 pounds were $1 to $3 higher. Demand was moderate to good, and supply was moderate to light. Feeder cattle benefited from the recent Cattle On Feed Report as July placements were lighter than expected. Two to seven inches of rain locally prompted flash flood warnings for most of southwest Missouri. The feeder supply included 42% steers, 4% Holsteins, 44% heifers, 10% bulls, with 48% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, package 378 lbs., 137.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 120.00 to 126.00, few thin 123.50 to 128.00; 600 to 700 115.00 to 125.50; lot 794 lbs., 116.75. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350 to 400 lbs., 125.00 to 138.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 113.00 to 134.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 117.00 to 123.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 115.25 to 121.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 110.25 to 116.00; 800 to 870 lbs., 107.75 to 114.00.; 985 to 990 lbs., 100.00.

Feeder Holstein steers: Large frame 3, 400 to 465 lbs., 90.00 to 91.00; 530 to 570 lbs., 85.00 to 89.00; 630 to 700 lbs., 86.75 to 93.00; 750 to 770 lbs., 87.00 to 87.50; 835 to 865 lbs., 82.00 to 83.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 325 to 400 lbs., 123.00 to 127.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 110.00 to 120.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 109.00 to 115.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 109.00 to 115.00; 700 to 775 lbs., 109.00 to 112.00; lot 868 lbs., 101.25. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 330 to 400 lbs., 116.00 to 121.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 107.00 to 115.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 105.00 to 113.00, thin 111.00 to 113.75; 600 to 700 lbs., 102.00 to 111.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 99.00 to 104.75, lot thin 110.50; 800 to 840 lbs., 97.50 to 100.00; lot 966 lbs., 94.25.
