Georgia cattle auction summaryThe summary of Georgia cattle auctions for the week ending Aug. 17 showed receipts of 12,199 head, compared to 10,181 head last week and 12,802 head last year, according to the USDA-Georgia Department of Agriculture Market News, Thomasville, Ga. Compared to one week ago, slaughter cows were $1 to $3 lower, bulls were $1 to $2 lower, feeder steers were $1 to $3 lower, heifers were $2 to $5 lower, steer calves were $2 to $6 lower, heifer calves were $2 to $4 lower, replacement cows were $2 to $5 lower. The offering included 7% steers over 600 pounds, 37% steers under 600 pounds, 5% heifers over 600 pounds, 29% heifers under 600 pounds, 8% feeder cows, 12% slaughter cows, and 2% bulls.
