Wyobraska cattle sales reportThe combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending August. 11, totaled 6,850 head, compared to 5,050 head last week and 10,250 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo. This was the first good test of feeder cattle at Wyoming auctions for several weeks, therefore no recent price comparison was available. Demand was good. Direct trading was slow to moderate week. Few comparable steers sales were steady, and comparable heifer sales were $1 to $2 higher. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer inquiry was moderate to good. Offerings were moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 44% of the supply, heifers 56% with 79% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 4350 head of the total receipts.
