Workshop examines ways to reduce cattle stressNebraska A seminar for feedlot personnel, "Reducing Cattle Stress in the Feedyard," is scheduled for Aug. 21 in Scottsbluff. Featured speaker will be Dr. Tom Noffsinger, Benkelman, Neb., a noted feedyard health consultant specializing in interactions between cattle and their caretakers. The program will begin at 2 p.m. in the auditorium at the UNL Panhandle Research and Extension Center, Scottsbluff. There is no fee. Attendees are asked to call the Scottsbluff County Extension Office at 308-632-1480 with the number of staff who will attend to allow for an accurate meal count. Dinner will be provided. Co-sponsors include Wyo-Braska Cattle Feeders, University of Nebraska Extension, and Boehringer Ingelheim. Noffsinger will discuss proper cattle handling techniques. His program is for those interested in increasing cattle performance, increased vaccine efficiency, earlier disease and injury detection and decreased stress-related illness in a feedyard setting. Another benefit is a safer work environment for feedyard management and personnel. Date: 8/14/07
