Tulia livestock market reportThe Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, Aug. 13, reported receipts of 2,000 head, compared to 2,386 head last week and 2,985 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were steady to $1 higher, under 600 pounds not enough for a good price comparison but a lower undertone was noted particularly on fleshy unweaned calves. Hot weather, at nearly 100 degrees every day, the past week has really put pressure on bawling calves especially if they are still bulls. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady on a light test. Trade was active and demand good for yearlings and moderate for calves. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 600- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 86% and slaughter cows and bulls 14% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 76% of the run, heifers 24%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 84%.
