Salina cattle auction reportThe Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 4,229 head Aug. 9, compared to 3,644 head last week and 3,930 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers at 400 to 600 pounds were $2 to $3 lower on a light test. Steers at 600 to 800 pounds were steady, and 800 to 1000 pounds were steady to $1 lower. Heifers at 600 to 700 pounds were steady, and 700 to 900 pounds were $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter cows were not tested. Trade was active. Demand was good. Receipts included 95% 600 pounds and over, 5% 600 pounds and under, less than 1% slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 80% steers and 20% heifers.
