OKC West livestock sales

OKC West-El Reno Livestock Market, El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 3,455 head Aug. 15, compared to 3,809 last week and 5,458 last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Ag Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were $1 to $2 higher. Feeder heifers were $1 to $3 higher. Demand continued to be very good as numbers of feeders remained on the light side this summer. Steer calves were steady. Heifer calves were steady to $2 lower. Demand was moderate for calves. Feeder cattle were in thin to moderate flesh conditions. Weigh-ups were mostly average. The supply consisted of 86 percent over 600 pounds;10 percent under 600 pounds; and 4 percent cows and bulls. The total supply included 35 percent heifers. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady to $1 higher. Packer demand was good for light receipts. A total of 140 cows and bulls sold with 41 percent going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 and 2, 7 head, 1375 to 1750 lbs., 66.00 to 70.00; high dressing, 73.50 to 75.50; low dressing, 60.00 to 62.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 4 years old, 1050 lbs., 6 months, high blacks, 1040.00; 6 to 7 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 5 to 7 months, average to high quality, 860.00 to 900.00; 6 to 7 years old, 900 to 1050 lbs., 2 to 3 months, average quality, 770.00; 9 to 10 years old, 950 to 1200 lbs., 3 to 7 months, average quality, 535.00 to 660.00.
