Wyobraska cattle sales

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Aug. 4, totaled 5,050 head, compared to 4,650 head last week and 4,400 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

At Wyoming auctions feeder steers and heifer not well tested week. Demand was moderate to good for available supplies. Direct trading moderate. Few comparable sales steady. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer inquiry was moderate to good. Offerings were moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 68% of the supply, heifers 32%, with 91% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 4950 head of the total receipts.

Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 460 lbs., 117.50; 835 lbs., 105.00; 930 lbs., 103.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 480 lbs., 135.00 October; calves 610 lbs., 123.00 November; 810 to 890 lbs., 110.00 to 117.00; 825 lbs., 114.75 August/September; 925 to 950 lbs., 109.00 to 113.00. Delivered price, 675 to 700 lbs., 119.00 to 120.00 December; 835 lbs., 113.50.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 420 lbs., 114.50; 795 lbs., 104.00; 900 lbs., 99.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, FOB price, 460 lbs., 126.00 October; 650 lbs., 106.00 December; 730 lbs., 109.00; 775 lbs., 111.50 August; 825 to 880 lbs., 105.00 to 109.00. Delivered price, 735 lbs., 110.50.
