Tulsa cattle sales report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 1,837 head Aug. 6, compared to 1,771 head last week and 3,647 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture to USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, stocker and feeder cattle were mostly steady. There was a good attendance of buyers along with very good demand on all classes, with best action on 500- to 600-pound cattle. Weigh-ups were mostly average. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady with good demand on fleshy cows. A total of 211 cows and bulls sold with 57% going to packers. There were no steer and heifer numbers due to technical problems with the computer.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 13 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1800 lbs., 54.00 to 58.00; low dressing, 49.50 to 53.00. Boners, 35 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1050 to 1650 lbs., 53.00 to 56.50; high dressing, 57.00 to 60.50; low dressing, 48.50 to 52.00. Lean, 33 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1500 lbs., 51.00 to 54.50; high dressing, 55.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 46.50 to 50.00. Light, 25 head, 85 to 90% lean, 650 to 975 lbs., 45.50 to 48.50; high dressing, 49.00 to 50.50; low dressing, 40.50 to 44.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 15 head, 1300 to 2050 lbs., 64.00 to 67.50; high dressing, 68.50; low dressing, 59.50 to 63.00.

Replacement cows: Pre to tested for bangs, pregnancy, and age, Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 6 years old, 1200 to 1500 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average blacks 910.00 to 1060.00; 8 to 10 years old, 1050 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 5 months bred, average quality 675.00 to 780.00.
