Sorghum Board schedules meetingNebraska The Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board has scheduled a public meeting for Aug. 28, 2007 at the Nebraska State Office Building, 301 Centennial Mall South, Lincoln. The meeting will convene at 9 a.m., in Conference Room Lower Level B. In addition to regular Board business, the meeting will include election of the at-large director and to fill the vacancy in District #2, which includes the counties of Lancaster, Cass and Otoe. Elections will also include officers and cooperator program representatives for the 2007-2008 Fiscal year. Reports will be provided on program activities in the areas of research, market development, producer education and federal legislation. Qualified grain sorghum producers wishing to be considered for nomination to fill the at-large seat or the vacancy in District #2, may submit a statement of interest to the Board. The statement may be in the form of a letter or resume outlining the candidate's qualifications and declaring interest in serving on the Board. Qualified candidates residing in the above named counties will be eligible for appointment to District #2. The at-large position will be made at large. Qualifications also include those who are citizens of Nebraska, are 21 years of age, have been actually engaged in growing sorghum in Nebraska for a period of at least five years, and derive a substantial portion of their income from growing grain sorghum. Statements may be submitted electronically at sorghum-bk@email.state.ne.us or by writing the Grain Sorghum Board, P.O. Box 94982, Lincoln, NE 68509. Interested candidates will be provided an opportunity to meet with the Board prior to the election. The Board reserves the right to make nominations from the floor to fill the positions. The Nebraska Grain Sorghum Board administers the one-cent-per-hundredweight checkoff, which is assessed on all grain sorghum sold in the state.
