Ranch rodeo

Kansas

The 21st Annual Flint Hills Beef Fest is scheduled for Aug. 17-19 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Emporia, Kan.

Friday evening's ranch feed will be in the Anderson Building beginning at 6 p.m. Come in out of the heat and enjoy a delicious dinner while visiting with friends and family. Then take in the popular ranch rodeo and businessman mugging and enjoy the blues band "Randon Tuesday" at the barbecue cook-off.

Teams that have placed in area Ranch Rodeos from surrounding counties will compete at 7 p.m., at the Lyon County Fairgrounds arena. Each event is a race against the clock, with bonus points being awarded in each event.

Again this year we will have the Businessman's Mugging. This contest will consist of four members per team. Members of the team will have a time limit to mug a steer to the ground. The team with the best time wins. Ten teams will have a chance to enter. The first nine teams that call will compete. Last year's winners will automatically be entered. Entry fee will be $15 per team. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team. To enter your team call 620-344-3849 by August 1.

Tickets for the Ranch Rodeo and Barbecue are $10 for adults and $5 for children (10 years and under). You can purchase tickets at the Emporia Veterinary Hospital, 710 Anderson; Jim's Cowboy Shop, 312 Commercial; or Fronitier Farm Credit Office, 1221 E. 6th.

This is only one of the many activities planned for this exciting weekend. Make plans now to attend the 21st annual Flint Hills Beef Fest, Aug. 17-19. For more information call Cathy Lieber at 620-344-3849 or visit our website at www.beeffest.com.
