Pratt livestock sales report

Pratt Livestock Sales Inc., Prat, Kan., reported receipts of 2,251 head Aug. 2, compared to 2,910 head last week and 2,644 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared to last week, feeder steers at 300 to 700 pounds and feeder heifers at 300 to 750 pounds were not enough for a market test but a firm undertone was noted. Feeder steers at 700 to 900 pounds were steady to $1 higher, and 900 to 1000 pounds were $2 higher. Feeder heifers at 750 to 800 pounds were $1 higher, and 800 to 950 pounds were not tested. Trade was active, demand was good. Slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were $2 lower. Receipts included 86% 600 pounds and over, 7% 600 pounds and under, 7% cows and bulls. The feeder supply included 85% steers and 15% heifers.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 650 to 700 lbs., 117.00 to 118.00 (117.53); 8 head, 748 lbs., 113.50; 15 head, 883 lbs., 109.50; 900 to 950 lbs., 105.75 to 107.10 (106.45). Medium and large frame 2: 9 head, 536 lbs., 124.00; 4 head, 775 lbs., 102.50; 9 head, 827 lbs., 110.00. Large frame 2, 3 head, 935 lbs., 96.00. Large frame 3, Holsteins, 3 head, 933 lbs., 72.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 9 head, 368 lbs., 124.00; 25 head, 470 lbs., 120.00; 7 head, 583 lbs., 119.50; 600 to 650 lbs., 115.00 to 116.00 (115.40); 650 to 700 lbs., 114.00 to 115.00 (114.31); 3 head, 727 lbs., 113.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 110.75 to 113.75 (111.58); 6 head, 939 lbs., 90.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 764 lbs., 106.00. Medium and large frame 2, 6 head, 595 lbs., 104.00.

Baby calves: Per head, 2 head, 275.00 to 350.00 (312.50).

Feeder cows and heiferettes: 3 head, 74.00 to 80.00 (76.67).

Bred cows: Per head, Medium frame 1, bred second trimester, first calf 10 head, 993 lbs., 780.00.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 60.00 to 61.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 51.00 to 56.00; high dressing, 57.00 to 59.00; low dressing, 45.00 to 50.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 63.25 to 68.25 (65.94); low dressing, 58.50 to 62.50 (60.25).
