OKC West livestock auction report

The OKC West Livestock Market Inc., El Reno, Okla., reported receipts of 3,809 head Aug. 8, compared to 4,556 head last week and 5,697 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $2 higher, except for those thin enough for grass were $5 to $10 higher. Limited numbers of feeder heifers were steady. Demand was extremely good for feeder cattle, especially for those in thin flesh. Few steer and heifer calves were steady to $2 lower. Demand was moderate to good for calves as summer's heat was taking its toll on the short-weaned calves. The supply consisted of 82% over 600 pounds, 16% over 600 pounds, 2% cows and bulls. The total supply included 23% heifers. Slaughter cows were mostly $1 higher in a light test.
