Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 2,232 head Aug. 2, compared to 640 head last week and 1,808 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, slaughter ewes sold mostly steady. Feeder lambs under 100 pounds sold mostly steady to $2 higher, instance $4 higher. Feeder lambs over 100 pounds sold mostly steady to weak. Receipts included about 92% feeder lambs, 7% slaughter ewes with the balance miscellaneous sheep and goats. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 65 head, 180 lbs., 29.25. Good 3 to 4, 5 head, 170 lbs., 15.75; 202 to 208 lbs., 17.50 to 18.25 (17.80). Utility and Good 1 to 3, 24 head, 154 lbs., 27.50. Cull 1, 20 head, 143 lbs., 14.50. Feeder lambs: Medium and Large 1 to 2, 73 to 74 lbs., 111.00 to 112.75 (111.57); 26 head, 77 lbs., 109.25 black face; 113 head, 89 lbs., 114.25; 50 head, 86 lbs., 111.00 black face; 90 to 99 lbs., 107.50 to 114.75 (109.39); 41 head, 93 lbs., 106.25 fleshy; 100 to 104 lbs., 107.00 to 108.75 (108.02); 5 head, 106 lbs., 75.50 buck lambs; 32 head, 119 lbs., 98.00 fleshy; 20 head, 131 to 135 lbs., 96.50 to 97.25 (96.92) fleshy. Medium and large frame 2, 16 head, 46 lbs., 111.75; 48 head, 58 lbs., 111.25; 60 to 68 lbs., 111.00 to 111.50 (111.44); 21 head, 93 lbs., 106.75.
