Governor Ritter appoints two brand board commissioners

Tim Thatcher, of Pueblo, and Tracy Lungwitz, of Yuma, have been appointed commissioners to the Colorado Department of Agriculture's State Board of Stock Inspection.

Tim E. Thatcher will serve as a representative of the non-confinement cattle industry. Thatcher is a fifth generation cattle rancher and manages the daily operation of the family ranch, Thatcher Land and Cattle Company, which is located in Pueblo. Thatcher's industry affiliations include: Colorado Beef Council (member), Colorado Cattlemen's Association (Past Committee Chair/State Land Board), Pueblo County Cattlemen's Association (President), Pueblo County Farm Bureau (Board Member) and Pueblo County 4-H Foundation (Board Member). Thatcher also has a B.S. in Agriculture Business from Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

Tracy Lungwitz will serve as a representative of the confinement cattle industry. Lungwitz owns and operates Yuma County Dairy in Yuma, Co. Lungwitz's professional affiliations include Yuma County Fair (Manager), Colorado Livestock Association (member), Colorado Corn Administrative Committee (member), and the Western Dairy Farmers Association (member).

Both nominations require Senate confirmation.

The 5-person commission administers brand inspection and livestock laws. The group also regulates fees for stock inspections, sets service charges and procedures, administers the Estray Fund, licenses public livestock markets, and secures bond and surety on butchers and slaughters.
