Fall collection dates for abandoned pesticides set in Cross, StArkansas Producers in the L'Anguille River basin have another chance to rid themselves of old and abandoned pesticides on their property with November collections set for Cross, Lee and St. Francis counties. "Many producers have found these opportunities to be very useful in removing potential hazards not only from the L'Anguille River watershed, but also their own property," said Billie Majors, pesticide disposal coordinator for the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. The collections are being conducted with support from the Arkansas Natural Resource Commission, the Cooperative Extension Service, and the Arkansas Farm Bureau. There is no cost to producers for the collections. This fall's collection dates will be: --Lee County Location: Lee County Road Department, Marianna, Arkansas Hwy. 243. Date: Tuesday, Nov. 7. Time: 8 a.m., to 1 p.m. Inventory forms due to Farm Bureau: October 26. --St. Francis County Location: Northeast Arkansas Recycling Company, Madison, Arkansas Hwy. 50. Date: Wednesday, Nov. 8. Time: 8 a.m., to 1 p.m. Inventory forms due to Farm Bureau: October 26. --Cross County Location: Gibbs Farm Granary, one mile west of Wynne on U.S. 64. Date: Thursday, Nov. 9. In 2006 and 2007 the Abandoned Pesticide Trust Fund funded collection events in nine counties. These events collected and disposed of 159,091 pounds of unwanted and unusable material. This program is open to all agricultural producers and landowners free of charge. Commercial pesticide applicators and dealers do not qualify for the program. The collection cannot accept explosives/ordnance, radioactive materials, household chemicals, petroleum products, medical wastes, fertilizers, solvents and paints.
