Amarillo livestock salesThe Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,973 head Aug. 7, compared to 1,727 head last week and 1,322 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo, Texas. Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were steady to firm. Trade and demand were light to moderate, with greatest demand seen on uniform lots. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady on a light test. Feeder cattle accounted for approximately 97% of the run with slaughter cows and bulls accounting for 3% of the run. In the feeder supply steers made up approximately 39%, heifers 61%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds 58%.
