Wyobraska cattle sales report

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending April 21, totaled 4,800 head, compared to 3,450 head last week and 6,000 head last year, according to the USDA-Wyoming Department of Agriculture Market News, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at Wyoming auctions feeder steers sold steady to firm, instances $1 higher, and feeder heifers sold unevenly steady to $3 lower. Demand was moderate to good. Direct trade was slow. No good price comparison was available, with few comparable steers sales at $2 higher. Offerings were light to moderate. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry was moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent from base weight. Steers made up approximately 41% of the supply, heifers 59%, with 77% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 600 head of the total receipts.
