West Plains regional cattle sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,200 head April 24, compared to 2,628 head last week and 2,940 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers and heifers under 700 pounds sold steady to $3 lower, although several, especially on the start, were $2 to $5 lower, most pressure on un-weaned, lesser uniform calves and fleshy offerings. Weights over 700 pounds were steady to $2 higher. The supply was moderate, with a high percentage of black-hided 4 to 5 weight calves, even though several were soft and packing some flesh, most were uniform and burning up with quality attracting some buyer attention. Demand was moderate to good, best on weaned calves, preferably with 2 rounds of respiratory shots, prior to being chased to the upper limits of the market.
