Tulsa livestock market report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 3,457 head April 23, compared to 2,194 head last week and 5,082 head last year, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer calves were $5 to $8 lower, with few feeder steers $2 to $3 lower. Heifer calves were $4 to $6 lower. Few feeder heifers were steady to $2 lower, with 6 weights holding steady. Demand was good with good attendance of buyers. Weigh-ups were mostly average. Cattle in medium flesh, with some new crop fleshy calves included. Receipts were comprised of 39% steers, 50% heifers, 11% bulls, with 33% of feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were $1 to $2 lower. A total of 850 cows and bulls sold with 39% going to packers.

Boners, 105 head, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1525 lbs., 52.50 to 56.00; high dressing, 56.50 to 60.00; low dressing, 48.50 to 52.00. Lean, 101 head, 85 to 90% lean, 950 to 1300 lbs., 50.00 to 53.50; high dressing, 54.00 to 59.00; low dressing, 45.50 to 49.00. Light, 44 head, 85 to 90% lean, 750 to 950 lbs., 44.00 to 48.00; high dressing, 49.00 to 51.00; low dressing, 40.00 to 43.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 39 head, 1400 to 2125 lbs., 62.00 to 65.00; high dressing, 66.00 to 69.50; low dressing, 57.50 to 61.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 2 to 3 years old, 1000 to 1100 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average blacks, 800.00 to 825.00; 5 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1250 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average blacks, 800.00 to 900.00; 7 to 9 years old, 1080 to 1175 lbs., 3 to 5 months bred, average blacks, 725.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 6 to 8 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, average blacks, 900.00 to 1075.00.
