Tulia livestock market report

The Tulia livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 4,761 head April 23, compared to 4,201 head last week and 6,125 head last year, according to the Texas Department of Agriculture Market News-USDA Market News, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers under 700 pounds and heifers under 600 pounds were $2 to $4 lower, steers over 700 pounds were steady to $1 higher, heifers over 600 pounds were steady. Several consignments of new crop calves were on offer, which noted considerable lower price difference compared to long weaned kinds. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 lower, decline on lean cows. A limited test showed slaughter bulls were steady. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 98% and slaughter cows and bulls 2% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 66% of the run, heifers 34%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 74%.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 327 lbs., 145.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 125.00 to 133.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 112.00 to 121.50; 600 to 700 lbs., 110.00 to 114.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 101.50 to 108.85, load 716 lbs., thin 111.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 97.50 to 103.50; package 987 lbs., 88.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 445 to 485 lbs., 115.00 to 117.00; package 659 lbs., 95.00.

Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 42.00; 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 45.00 to 49.00; high dressing, 53.75 to 55.35; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 44.50 to 46.50; low dressing, 40.00 to 42.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1560 to 2130 lbs., 61.00 to 66.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 820 to 1215 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, 550.00 to 785.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 800 to 1300 lbs., with 50- to 200-lb. calves, 560.00 to 860.00 per pair.

Breeding bulls: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 1000.00 to 1525.00 per head.
