Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 668 head April 23, compared to 646 head last week and 653 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder lambs sold $3 to $5 higher on a light test. Slaughter lambs were too few to test. Slaughter ewes sold mostly $5 to $8 higher, instances were $10 higher. Receipts included about 64% slaughter ewes; 16% feeder lambs; 4% slaughter lambs and the balance was bucks and miscellaneous sheep. Buyer attendance good with good to very good demand on the slaughter ewes.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 16 head, 125 lbs., 93.50; 8 head, 135 lbs., 90.00.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 20 head, 151 to 155 lbs., 39.00 to 40.50 (40.12); 160 to 182 lbs., 39.50 to 44.00 (41.08). Good 2 to 4, 11 head, 200 to 207 lbs., 35.00 to 35.50 (35.18). Good 3 to 4, 214 to 249 lbs., 23.50 to 26.00 (24.38). Utility and Good 2 to 3, 150 to 157 lbs., 33.00 to 39.00 (35.95); 161 to 165 lbs., 35.00 to 37.50 (36.87); 5 head, 192 lbs., 26.50 full. Utility 1 to 2, 140 to 147 lbs., 22.50 to 31.00 (26.01). Cull 1, 126 to 134 lbs., 20.00 to 22.50 (21.18); 7 head, 105 lbs., 17.50.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 58 to 59 lbs., 126.00 to 128.00 (127.03) new crop; 27 head, 86 lbs., 115.50 new crop; 5 head, 107 lbs., 92.50; 9 head, 115 lbs., 94.00.

Slaughter kids: Selection 2 to 3, 6 head, 57 lbs., 63.00; 7 head, 69 lbs., 54.00; 15 head, 90 lbs., 61.00.

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1 to 2, 3 head, 108 lbs., 65.00; 6 head, 133 lbs., 64.50.
