Wyobraska cattle sales notes

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Sept. 16, totaled 7,800 head, compared to 22,300 head last week and 10,800 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold unevenly steady, with instances $1 lower than last week at Wyoming auctions. Demand was good. In the direct trade comparable steer and heifers sales were mostly steady. Direct trade was slow to moderate. Demand was moderate. Buyer inquiry moderate. Offerings were light to moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up approximately 68% of the supply, heifers 32% with 53% over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 3635 head of the total receipts.
