Wheat commissioner Kisling receives Staff of Life AwardOklahoma Governor Brad Henry presented the Oklahoma Wheat Commission's "Staff of Life" award to Oklahoma Wheat Commission board member Keith Kisling at SEPTEMBERFEST recently. Kisling, a farmer and rancher from Burlington, was honored for his exceptional leadership and service to the Oklahoma Wheat industry. Kisling has been farming and ranching in Alfalfa County since 1974. In addition to raising wheat, he also raises corn and alfalfa and has a 1,000-head stocker/feeder yard. Kisling taught vocational agriculture for four years at Burlington High School from 1970 to 1974. Kisling is a member of the Driftwood Christian Church, Oklahoma State University Alumni Board, Alfalfa County Farm Bureau, Federal Land Bank Association and the Oklahoma and National Cattlemen's Association. He is also on the Dean's Advisory Board of Agriculture at OSU, the FFA Foundation Board and is on the board of directors of Plains Grains, Inc. Kisling is past chairman of U.S. Wheat Associates, the international marketing arm of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission. He is currently serving his third 5-year term on the Oklahoma Wheat Commission, and has served as chairman twice. Kisling was first appointed to the Oklahoma Wheat Commission by Governor Keating in 1997 and was reappointed to subsequent 5-year terms in 2001 and 2006. Keith and his wife Marlene have three children, Brent, Chad and Kim and two grandchildren, Layne and Bree. All three children graduated from OSU with agricultural degrees. Date: 9/19/06
