Tulia livestock auction report

Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 1,972 head Sept. 18, compared to 1,191 head last week and 2,283 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers under 400 pounds were $5 to $10 lower, 400 to 600 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, over 600 pounds were mostly steady on a light test. Feeder heifers under 600 pounds were $1 to $3 higher, over 600 pounds were steady on a light test. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Feeder cattle accounted for 90% and slaughter cows and bulls 10% of the run. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 52% of the run, heifers 48%, steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 20%.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, package 389 lbs., 145.00; 450 to 475 lbs., 137.00 to 139.00, lot 467 lbs., fleshy 124.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 121.50 to 126.00, package 522 lb. yearlings 118.00; lot 643 lbs., 114.00; package 737 lbs., 112.00; 970 to 1000 lbs., 89.50 to 90.50. Medium and large frame 2, 325 to 375 lbs., 138.00 to 140.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 124.00 to 135.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 112.00 to 119.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 108.00 to 113.00; package 723 lbs., 108.50. Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1600 lbs., 43.50 to 47.50, few; 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 39.00 to 43.00, few. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 45.50 to 49.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 43.00 to 36.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 36.00 to 42.00; 85 to 90% lean, under 800 lbs., 35.00 to 37.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1400 to 1495 lbs., 54.00 to 55.00, few; high dressing, 1435 to 1505 lbs., 57.50 to 61.00, few.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, young to middle aged, 1190 to 1355 lbs., 2 to 5 months bred 560.00 to 660.00 per head. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle aged, 860 to 1200 lbs., 2 to 5 months bred 475.00 to 510.00 per head, individual 1085 lbs., cow 6 to 8 months bred 760.00 per head.
