Texas herds enroll in LIMS

Texas

Just eight months after its official launch, more than 10,000 cows--representing more than 100 herds--are part of the voluntary Limousin Inventory Management System.

Beginning with calves born in 2006, active North American Limousin Foundation members have had the option of conducting business using the Web-based LIMS. Participants pay an annual, per cow fee that entitles them to record, register and transfer the cow's calf for that year.

The system helps NALF members lower their costs of doing business with their association. Meanwhile, they contribute more complete and comprehensive production information that leads to inventory-proven genetics backed by more accurate expected progeny differences.

Active NALF members can enroll in LIMS by first accessing their secured, members-only portions of the NALF website (www.nalf.org/members). Once logged in to their own member sites, they simply click the LIMS button at the top of the page to begin the sign-up process.

Limousin breeders wanting to enroll spring-calving cows in LIMS must do so by Feb. 15 each year. July 15 is the annual deadline for enrolling fall-calving cows.

Ten NALF members from Texas helped launch LIMS.

--T Bar J Land and Cattle Co., Addison;

--Begert Limousin Ranch, Allison;

--Bruce Lawrence, Anton;

--Lee Roy Lawrence, Anton;

--Debbie Lumbley, Brenham;

--Fuhrmann Brothers Limousin, Gainesville;

--Roy Lee Fuhrmann, Gainesville;

--Parkinson Cattle Co., Levelland;

--Shields Excel Limousin, Morton; and

--James "Trey" Stolte III, New Braunfels.

The North American Limousin Foundation (www.nalf.org), headquartered in Englewood, Colo., provides programs and services--including genetic evaluation of 5,000 active sires--to about 4,000 members and their commercial customers. The Limousin breed and its Lim-Flex hybrid lead the beef industry in muscle-growth efficiency and ideally complement British breeds.
