St. Onge livestock auction report

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,520 head Sept. 15, compared to 1,399 head last week and 1,690 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder calves sold steady. Yearlings sold $1 to $2 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady. Feeder cows sold $1 to $2 lower. Feeder receipts included 54% steers and 46% heifers, with 39% percent over 600 pounds. Receipts were about 80% feeders, 8% replacement females, 6% slaughter cows, 4% slaughter bulls and the balance was feeder bulls, pairs and baby calves. Buyer attendance was good with moderate to good demand. A high percentage of weigh-up cattle were low dressing individuals.

Replacement females: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 years old, 895 lbs., 81.00; 1025 to 1026 lbs., 74.00 to 77.50. Feeder cows, Large frame 1, 1380 to 1565 lbs., 50.00 to 53.00; young 55.00; full 48.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 965 to 1338 lbs., 51.00 to 54.50; young 56.00 to 57.75.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1355 to 2445 lbs., 59.00 to 61.75; high dressing, 62.00 to 64.25; low dressing, 55.50 to 59.00.
