Sioux Falls sheep sales

The Sioux Falls sheep auction, Sioux Falls, S.D., reported receipts of 1,339 head Sept. 18, compared to 1,220 head last week and 1,318 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, slaughter lambs were mostly steady. Several lambs in the offering with damp pelts and carrying dirt from experiencing some precipitation this weekend. Feeder lambs mostly steady on a narrow test. Slaughter ewes sold firm to $2 higher. Demand was good to moderate on all sheep classes, moderate on goats. Supplies were comprised of 65% slaughter lambs, 15% slaughter ewes, 7% feeder lambs, 7% slaughter nannies, and 5% slaughter kids.

Slaughter lambs: Shorn Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 116 to 128 lbs., 96.50 to 99.75 (98.90); 133 to 143 lbs., 96.00 to 100.00 (99.13). Wooled Choice and Prime 2 to 3, 117 to 126 lbs., 96.00 to 99.00 (97.73); 131 to 149 lbs., 98.00 to 99.75 (99.00); 16 head, 177 lbs., 94.00.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 5 head, 153 lbs., 40.25; 168 to 180 lbs., 38.00 to 42.00 (40.78); 5 head, 200 lbs., 36.00. Utility and Good 1 to 3, 16 head, 130 to 150 lbs., 33.00 to 38.00 (36.40); 8 head, 162 to 185 lbs., 34.00 to 35.00 (34.65). Utility 1 to 2, 5 head, 151 lbs., 31.50; 9 head, 174 lbs., 30.50. Cull 1, 19 head, 125 to 157 lbs., 4.00 to 28.00 (26.81); 18 head, 165 to 171 lbs., 27.00 to 28.50 (28.16).

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 61 to 69 lbs., 115.00 to 122.00 (118.75); 22 head, 70 lbs., 114.00; 18 head, 82 to 89 lbs., 102.25 to 112.00 (107.84); 17 head, 90 lbs., 106.50.

Slaughter kids: Selection 1, 2 head, 40 lbs., 86.00; 13 head, 53 lbs., 81.00; 5 head, 63 lbs., 100.00; 6 head, 70 to 72 lbs., 77.00; 2 head, 90 lbs., 88.00. Selection 2, 5 head, 52 lbs., 81.00; 10 head, 73 to 78 lbs., 67.50 to 70.00 (69.47); 10 head, 85 to 89 lbs., 72.00 to 76.00 (72.77).

Slaughter nannies/does: Selection 1, 64 head, 123 lbs., 70.00. Selection 2, 17 head, 111 to 119 lbs., 60.00 to 62.00 (61.09); 2 head, 138 lbs., 59.00.
